🎧 PODCASTS

Welcome to this little section of the blog, I am so happy you are here.

Podcasts aren’t just for adults—they’re a wonderful way to entertain, educate, and inspire young learners too! In this section, you’ll discover a couple of engaging audio content designed especially for kindergarten-aged children. From imaginative storytelling to fun educational topics, podcasts can spark curiosity and foster a love for learning.

In the classroom, we can use podcasts, they are a great tool for engaging kindergarteners and can be used to enhance learning during circle time, transitions, or as part of daily routines. Create a cozy listening space and choose short, age-appropriate episodes with interactive elements like songs or stories. Encourage active participation by pausing to discuss, predict, or mimic actions from the podcast. Extend learning with follow-up activities like drawing, dramatic play, or problem-solving. Finally, set up a listening center for independent exploration and share recommendations with families to continue the fun at home.

Here are some recommendations:

  • GREEKING OUT: The Greeking Out podcast by National Geographic Kids brings classic Greek myths to life in a fun, kid-friendly way. While it primarily focuses on Greek mythology, it occasionally ventures into other mythic tales, such as Loki from Norse mythology. This podcast quickly became a favorite in our home, though my kids sometimes noticed differences between these retellings and the versions they already knew (like those from D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths). I appreciated how it encouraged them to think critically about how and why stories evolve over time. If your children love mythological tales—or you’d like to spark their interest in mythology—this podcast is a must-listen!
  • CIRCLE ROUND:  Circle Round is a creative podcast that brings folktales from around the world to life, with episodes ranging from 10 to 20 minutes. Recently, the podcast has featured episodes from other kids' podcasts, like Brains On, in its feed, so you may come across these alongside its own stories. This podcast is more direct in delivering moral lessons compared to some others, often emphasizing themes like kindness, generosity, and other shared cultural values. While folktales traditionally teach morals, I sometimes find the messages in Circle Round to be a bit heavy-handed. Nonetheless, it’s a great choice for those who appreciate stories with clear life lessons.
  • THE STORY SEEDS: This relatively new podcast stands out by offering a unique approach—it’s not a traditional story, but a behind-the-scenes look at how stories are created. Each episode pairs a child (ages 6-12) with a children’s book author, and together, they collaborate to write original stories based on the child’s idea, or “seed.” While it’s not updated as often as some other podcasts, there are more than two dozen episodes available for listening. It’s a great choice for sparking creativity and showing kids the process of storytelling from concept to creation.
